Sanga first to 1,000 runs
English County Cricket
Kumar Sangakkara completed another milestone when he became the first player to pass 1,000 runs in the English County Championship this season.
The Sri Lankan legend scored his sixth hundred for Surrey on the opening day of their Division One 4-day encounter against Yorkshire at Leeds yesterday.
The stylish lefthander raced to 150 off just 164 balls as he smashed 20 fours and two sixes. In fact, he moved from 100 to 150 in just 28 balls. Sangakkara’s 1,000th Championship run of the season arrived with a boundary off Tim Bresnan and his sixth Championship century of the summer duly followed. Sangakkara also now averages 100.8 in the Championship. (Agencies)
