Submitting a special application, Additional Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda yesterday requested the commission to direct former CB Governor Arjun Mahendran to hand over all communication devices he used since January 1, 2015 to date for investigation purposes.

The ASG made this application under Section 6 of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCOI) Act based on available material obtained during the investigation which was sufficient to make such a request. The PCOI said it would consider the request.

Drawing its attention to the fact that some of the witnesses had lost their mobile devices on previous occasions quoting various reasons, the ASG said the mobile device handed over recently by Arjun Aloysius was only six months old.

On a previous occasion, it was revealed that Mr. Aloysius had allegedly destroyed the mobile phone he was using at the time while in Singapore, while interdicted EPF dealer Saman Kumara’s mobile device had been broken for no apparent reason.

Objecting to the application, Counsel Chanaka de Silva, who appeared for the former governor said the application was solely made seeking media attention.

In his response, ASG Dappula de Livera said the public have a right to know what happened at the PCOI and the media was present to convey that to the public.

“So you admit that the application was made for the media,” counsel asked. The ASG responded saying he never said that.
