The Accident Ward of the Colombo National Hospital (CNH) will be fully automated in order to provide a speedier and quality healthcare service to over 500 patients who seek treatment at the Accident Ward a day, Director CNH, Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.

A Bar Code will be given to each and every patient who get admitted to the Accident Ward and all the doctors of the Accident Ward will be equipped with a laptop to feed patient information, treatment, prescriptions and ward and bed head data.

“There will be no paper work and ward management and issuance of drugs and all other functions pertaining to the healthcare delivery will be fully automated,” Dr. Jasinghe added.

Dr. Jasinghe said the prescription of the patient will be channelled directly online to the hospital’s pharmacy and laboratory tests such as Xray, blood and blood sugar tests will be carried out in the same manner without any paper work.

There will be an automated conveyor system of specimen of the patient to the laboratory.

The doctor will be able to obtain test reports directly from the laboratory online using his laptop, Dr. Jasinghe said and added he believes that the new system will benefit not only the patient
