Concerns voiced over silting of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir

Environmental organizations are concerned over the silting of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir. They had observed the silting when the water level in the reservoir dropped.

A senior official in charge of the reservoir said the water level in the reservoir was low due to the release of water to hydropower plants despite the prevailing drought. He claimed that human activities in the catchment areas of the reservoir resulted in the silting.
