CTU condemns allege attack over CPC TUS
Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) yesterday condemned the allege attack over the petroleum trade unions members by the law enforcement authorities during the strike launched by the employees of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
Despite listening to the employees’ demands CTU Secretary Joseph Stalin said the government is violating the employee’s right of peaceful protest and suppress the trade union rights. We witnessed how protesters were quelled by bullets at Rathupaswala when they demanded to provide drinking water during the Former President Rajapaksa’s regime. It is unfortunate that present government is also suppressing the trade union actions even though they came in to power with an assurance to restore democracy in the country” he said.
Further, he said the same way the government attacks the university students and it had attacked the CPC employees, who were fighting against the governments alleged attempt to handover the country’s assets.
Therefore, CTC said that it condemns the government’s continues suppression of the trade union rights and students’ rights to protest.
