PRESENT POWER CRISIS DUE TO N’CHOLAI PLANT BREAKDOWN: DY. MINISTER
Sri Lanka is currently facing a power crisis due to a generators at Norochcholai plant coming to a complete standstill while two more machines are malfunctioning at the moment, Power and Energy Deputy Minister Ajith Perera told Parliament yesterday. The Deputy Minister was responding to a question raised by MP Thushara Indunil who inquired as to why some parts of the country were experiencing frequent power disruption.
“The country’s power supply is dependent on the Norochcholai plant and if the power generating machinery in that plant comes to a standstill it causes a great impact on the supply of Power” he said.
He also said this impact had risen as the country could no longer depend on hydro power because of the changing weather conditions. However the deputy Minister assured that the machinery at Norochcholai would be restored as soon as possible. ‘The country is actually suffering today due to wrong decision made in the past to adopt inferior types of technology to generate power,’ he added.
