US warning affects 400,000 trishaw drivers: Douglas
MP Douglas Devananda said yesterday the security alert issued by the US Embassy warning American citizens visiting Sri Lanka to maintain ‘situational awareness’ when travelling in trishaws had affected some 400,000 trishaw drivers who provided services to tourists.
He said according to police statistics, four complaints had been received against trishaw drivers last year while three complaints had been received so far this year.

The MP told parliament that three complaints were on sexual harassment while the others were on allegedly doctored meters. He asked the subject minister to reveal the real reason behind the warning issued by the embassy. House Leader Lakshman Kiriella said a statement would be made on this matter today.
