SENIOR CITIZEN KILLED IN KATANA

Asenior citizen was found dead in a pool of blood in his house and this body was recovered on Sunday evening by the Katana police.

The deceased N. Punchiband­a (65) was a resident of Dematahand­iya and a watcher of a coconut estate in the area. A lorry driver of the area had been taken into custody by the Katana Police in connection with the incident.

Investigat­ions revealed that the wife of the suspect and children were living in separation and the suspect was of the opinion that the disharmony in his family was due to an evil spell caused by the watcher. The two parties had a long drawn animosity that had resulted in the killing

Katana Additional Magistrate R.g.n.rankotge who visited the scene and held the preliminar­y magisteria­l inquiry ordered the JMO of the Negombo Hospital to perform the autopsy and submit the report.

A Police team under OIC Crime Investigat­ion W.M.U. Asoka is conducting further investigat­ions on the instructio­ns of OIC Katana Police CI Jagath Senaratne.
