REMEMBERING NALANGI PERERA

-

You were the kind of person Who left lovely memories behind For it is in happy remembrance That the heart finds its greatest joy

God plucked you away from our midst so suddenly.you went with neither a whimper nor a whisper. Your departure was so sudden,so unexpected and so overwhelmingly sorrowful.

I got to know Nalangi just after she became chairperson of Asian International School, which she inherited from her father. I had just left school when she assumed her position as chairperson, but when she reached out to me, we became good friends.

The first step in our journey together was organizing the schools 25th anniversary. Together with our small team we saw that all arrangements were made and carried out to perfection.when I saw Nalangi walk up the aisle for the celebrations as the chairperson together with Malith and baby Hitesh, I was very proud of her and words seemed insufficient to express my happiness.

From then on, her journey to develop the school and reach for the stars began..she was very intelligent, talkative, witty, kind and sincere. These were the qualities I admired most in her. She knew every nook and corner of AIS and strove to learn about the smooth running of the school from academics to maintenance and management. She instilled discipline in children, even when there were forces who preferred popularity to discipline.

One of Nalangi’s strengths was humility. She was willing to listen to anyone who came to her for help and wanted justice and fairness to all.

We ate ,drank and had fun and enjoyed each other’s company.

I know those days will never come again, but I will always love and cherish the beautiful memories I have of you Nalangi.

My heartfelt condolences to Malith, Bow (Hitesh) and family.

God bless you Nalangi. May your soul Rest In Peace. SHARON RAJENDRA
