JADEJA’S THROW HAD NO BEARING ON ADJUDICATORS’ MIND
Second Test at the SSC
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s act of throwing the ball ‘dangerously’ at the batsman (Malinda Pushpakumara) had no bearing on the adjudicators’ mind while awarding him the Man-of thematch award in the Second Test which concluded at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place on Sunday.
“It is not odd that the disciplined player is the Man-of-the-match winner,” Roshan Abeysinghe, one of the adjudicators on panel said yesterday.
“We, the commentators, are the adjudicators for awarding the winners and picked Jadeja for his all-round performance in the Test and his other action, though on the field, had no bearing on us,” he added.
India’s Sunil Gavaskar, Harsha Bhogle, Vivek Razdan, Vijay Dahiya, Murali Karthik, New Zealand’s Simon Doull and Sri Lanka’s Russell Arnold were the other commentators for the series.
The entire squads from Sri Lanka and India were not present but only the two captains Dinesh Chandimal and Virat Kohli and the winners were present at the awards presentation ceremony. “We have stopped this practice of asking all members from both teams to be at the presentation but a policy is now in place where only the key players remain present,” one of the SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) official said. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Captain Dinesh Chandimal will not carry his medicines and inhalers to Kandy.
“I am feeling much better and not required to use inhalers anymore,” Chandimal said.
“I have consulted my doctor and have been advised to stop using it anymore now.”
“I used to take medicines twice a day every morning and evening, but no more now.”
Chandimal was specially sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) the use of the inhalers which may have some banned substance.
Although the Indian Team won the Second Test match within four days, the team is not leaving for Kandy one day before. “It is in our agreement that the team will leave as per original schedule even if the match is finished one day earlier. The hotel bookings and net-practice sessions are also arranged accordingly,” the source attached with the team said.
