Bodum Engineering Solutions automates Sri Lanka’s livestock industry

-

Lanka Livestock’17 was recently held at the SLECC where Bodum Engineering Solutions Ltd, a leading knowledge-based company specializing in supplies, installation and equipment maintenance for the poultry, dairy, swine and feed industries, was the proud gold sponsor.

With the increasing poultry consumption in the country due to urbanization and higher disposable income, Sri Lanka hosted the first ever international agriculture, feed and livestock production exhibition titled Lanka Livestock’17 organized by the National Livestock Development Board and AMB Tarsus of Malaysia. This event provided a platform to suppliers of agriculture, feed and livestock production equipment and supplies to meet farmers, plantation owners, feed producers, veterinarians, processors and integrators.

The agriculture industry, especially the livestock and diary production, is exhibiting an impressive growth as the industry is investing and adopting the latest, state-of-the-art feed and farming systems to match and keep up with the increasing demand. Most notably commercial farms in the dairy sector have increased production and the same is also experienced in poultry production and commercial poultry feed production.

‘The poultry industry in Sri Lanka today is one of the most modern in the region even surpassing other neighboring countries in terms of equipment and facilities as many poultry integrators continuously upgrade their hatcheries, farms and processing to cater to the growing demand’, said Bodum Engineering Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd Sales and After Sales Director Rajive Miranda.

Miranda says, “The emphasis of the company has been in providing the industry with the latest technology, not compromising on quality and reliability. Such technology adapted by farmers contribute towards higher efficiency, reduce operating costs, improve yields and hygienic conditions. Unfortunately, traders, technically unqualified and with a desire for financial gain only, have also infiltrated this industry and it is a challenge to keep them from reversing this technological growth.”

The growing cost of production and limited labour in the industry has also forced producers to rethink their expansion strategy and move into automation where possible. “Currently the industry uses a large amount of labour at farm level as well as in processing and packaging. We believe customers are capable of adapting automation. We are seeing poultry producers switch to the latest technology and automation resulting in tremendous benefits to themselves” Miranda further stated.
