In the completion of the cancellation of the broadcasting license of the CSN channel yesterday, the Director and the Channel Head Rohan Welivita said the same fate would befell upon the other media institutions sooner or later.

Issuing a statement he said that the licence had been canceled following some baseless and false allegations during the present government was a obstruct to the people’s Right To Information (RTI).

He said that it was an unfortunate not having any media institution, artiste, journos or politicians to react the media suppression carried out by the government. Welivita also said the cancellation of the licence had rendered a hundred of practicing media personnel languish without employment.

“I wish to make an observation to all Media Institutions, all artists’ organisations, people’s organisations etc., on an impending disaster that awaits to engulf the media soon under the present principles of this regime. The same undesirable, unfortunate fate that befell CSN will be upon you before long,” Welivita said.

The broadcasting licence of the CSN was canceled on October 24,2016 by the Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media stating that the channel had violated the 3(iii), 11 and 14 conditions of the licence.

Meanwhile the court hearing is still pending at the Kaduwela Magistrate’s court.
