UDA COMMENCES RELOCATION OF LOW INCOME FAMILIES
218 families to receive houses on October 30th Urban regeneration project
Relocation of low income families to housing complexes constructed by the Urban Development Authority is scheduled to be kick started again next Monday (October 30) with the relocation of 218 families, the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development said on Monday.
The families who are currently living around the Beira Lake will be relocated to the Methsada Housing Scheme in Henamulla, Madampitiya, officials said.
Each housing unit will include two bed rooms, a kitchen, a washroom, a hall, a pantry and a balcony. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 763 million, each housing unit has been constructed on 418 square feet.
Officials said that only 218 housing units of the proposed 941 housing units for the project will be provided under the first phase. The Urban Regeneration Project is set to construct 25,000 housing units for low income families in Colombo. Construction of 19,072 housing units has already begun with officials stating the UDA will at least spend Rs. 100 billion for the construction of such sites.

The large scale development in the city is to follow the development of roads and other utilities and infrastructure facilities in the city.
