DISHANKA AND HANSANI IN ACTION TOMORROW
Two young Table Tennis players - Dishanka Tennekoon of Dharmaraja College Kandy and Hansani Sapugeekiyana of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo – have taken wing to India to attend selection trials of the Youth Olympics to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The competition will take place from October 6-18, 2018.
The Asian Qualification Round for the competition will take place tomorrow (3) to November 5 in Uttar Pradesh.
Only these two players will face the qualification round from Sri Lanka.
Tennekoon is placed fourth in the current Sri Lanka Open. He is also placed fourth in the Under 19 events and is an experienced Table Tennis player. In 2012 he participated in the ITTF World Hopes Week in Sweden and Australia.
He is the South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Champion as well having bagged the Silver Medal in Team and Singles events. This year at the South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships he won the Silver Medal in the Team Championships and in the Doubles event he pocketed the Bronze Medal in the Singles event. He has taken part in several international TT events as well.
Sapugeekiyana is the Under 18 and Under 21 champion in Table Tennis rankings. She is also placed fourth in the Sri Lanka Open Women’s events.
She has won three Gold Medals in the South Asian and Cadet Table Tennis Championships which were held in Pakistan (2016).
She has also bagged Gold Medals in Team, Doubles and Singles events. Sapugeekiyana has also represented Sri Lanka at the South Asian Games (2016) and the Commonwealth Games (2014). She has also qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.
