The motive behind the government’s move to abolish the Revival of Underperforming Enterprises or Under-utilised Assets Act through the present budget is to vest the Sevanagala Suger Company now running as a profitable venture on Minister Daya Gamage, the Deputy General Secretary of the trade union alliance allied to Joint Opposition Lalith Sripal claims.

He threatened the government that protests would be organised jointly by the farmer organisations, transporters and the businessmen along with other trade unions of the county if the government failed to withdraw the decision to abolish the act within three days.
He urged Parliamentarian Sumeda Jayasena to vote against this move. They also request all the members of parliament who represent the trade unions to vote against this move along with other MPS of their parties.
