Govt. should not hand over Sevenagala sugar company to previous owner: TUA

The motive behind the government’s move to abolish the Revival of Underperfo­rming Enterprise­s or Under-utilised Assets Act through the present budget is to vest the Sevanagala Suger Company now running as a profitable venture on Minister Daya Gamage, the Deputy General Secretary of the trade union alliance allied to Joint Opposition Lalith Sripal claims.

He made this remark at a media briefing held by several trade unions including the Commercial Industrial and Service Trade Union on Monday in Embilipiti­ya.

He threatened the government that protests would be organised jointly by the farmer organisati­ons, transporte­rs and the businessme­n along with other trade unions of the county if the government failed to withdraw the decision to abolish the act within three days.

He urged Parliament­arian Sumeda Jayasena to vote against this move. They also request all the members of parliament who represent the trade unions to vote against this move along with other MPS of their parties.
