- By Sarah Thadhani

An iconic partnership was inked recently as Associated Motorway (AMW) announced the appointment of ace cricketer Kumar Sangakkara as brand ambassador for Renault cars in Sri Lanka.

Emotions and feelings weren’t held back when Groupe Renault Indian Subcontinent Operations Country Ceo/managing Director Sumit Sawhney said they hadn’t even thought of another person, because they knew there was only one person for this job and he couldn’t be happier to have the ambassador of Sri Lanka cricket as the brand ambassador for Renault.

The partnership is also timed with Renault’s next phase of growth in Sri Lanka, as they look to significantly increase their presence across the country, as well as to aggressively expand their island-wide dealership footprint.

Renault has recently expanded its network to six showrooms and 21 service centres across the country.

The affordable Renault Kwid hatchback, which was launched a year ago in Sri Lanka, has been a massive hit on the Lankan roads and AMW as the local partner undoubtedly played a key role in it.

“We are delighted to welcome Kumar Sangakkara to the Renault family and this partnership is testament to the ambitious plans to grow the Renault brand across the country. Both Renault and Sangakkara are globally renowned and we have a lot of exciting customer-centric initiatives to further build on this positive momentum,” said AMW Managing Director Samantha Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, to celebrate this milestone association, Renault ‘Kwid Live For More’ edition was launched in Sri Lanka after its huge success in India.

Renault has combined this small hatchback with SUV like features and design to give it that macho look, which adds to the appeal.

The cabin of the car comes with modern and intuitive interiors that include a well-equipped dashboard with a spacious cabin and smart upholstery.

On the feature front, it comes with a segment-first seven-inch touchscreen with bluetooth technology along with other add-ons. It is also one of the most fuel efficient cars in this category as it can travel from Point Pedro to Point Dendro with a single full tank, according to a field test conducted. Further, it doesn’t just come in two or three colours but five and has an engine capacity of 800cc.
