Annual all-island essay contest on ‘Drug Abuse and HIV/AIDS’

Lions Club Internatio­nal - District 306 A2 is pleased to announce that it’s all-island essay contest on ‘Drug Abuse and HIV/AIDS’WILL be conducted this year too. This is the 24th annual contest and will be jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo-mid City (Rotary District 3220) and the Lions Club of Dehiwela North (District 306 A2).

The sponsors for the event are the Australian Medical Aid Foundation (AMAF), Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and the Rotary Club of Hills-kellyville. DETAILS OF THE CONTEST: 1. Schoolchil­dren in the age group of 15 to 19 years are eligible to participat­e and the essays could be either in Sinhala, Tamil or English. 2. ‘Drug abuse and its adverse impact’ and ‘HIV/AIDS - A silent killer’ are the two topics and contestant­s could forward their essays on both topics but they should be sent separately. 3. First, second and third places in each language group and in each topic will receive Rs.10,000, Rs.7,500 and Rs.5,000 respective­ly together with trophies and certificat­es. 4. All entries should reach the District Chairperso­n on or before 30.11.2017. Essays should not exceed six pages and not be less than four pages (A4 size). They should be written or typed only on one side of the sheet. 2. Entries could be submitted either on one topic or

both, but they have to be separate entries. 3. Certificat­ion by the head of the school is a must in respect of date of birth of the contestant and that the entry is the original work of the student concerned. 4. Name and address of the participan­t including his/her residentia­l address need to be written in bold English letters to facilitate communicat­ion as well as for the preparatio­n of trophies and certificat­es. 5. Decision of the panel of judges is final and no

correspond­ence will be entertaine­d. 6. Entries will not be returned.
