STUDENTS TO BE ENROLLED WITH QR CODE

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has proposed a special method for student identification, where every student would be assigned a number with a QR code verified by a fingerprint to be adhered to by all schoolchildren when they are enrolled in government schools.

“The introduction of the Unique Student Code for students who enter the school, along with a Finger-print Identification and a Quick Response Code. It was also proposed to use this number at school level examinations,” the minister said.

The ministry said this new identification system, will make it possible to observe the achievements of students at the Grade Five Scholarship Examination, GCE O/L and A/L examinations. It would also effectively reduce the number of examination frauds.

It has also been proposed to buy new Optical Character Recognition (OCR) machines to check answer scripts.
