Says expect each and every employee of the CEB works here with a smile

Though bonus and gratuities were paid to employees based on profits accumulated by a private company or a State commercial venture, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees would get a substantial bonus this year that would satisfy them, Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

Minister Siyambalapitiya noted that a proposal in this regard would be submitted to the next board meeting of the CEB and added the bonus CEB employees took measures to restore power supply in a few hours without thinking of the gravity of the power failure paid to CEB employees in 2018 would be considered a display of gratitude to them by the Government for their dedicated service and for supplying uninterrupted service round the year round the clock under trying conditions.

Addressing a ceremony held at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium to felicitate employees who had served the CEB for 30 years, Minister Siyambalapitiya said his main objective was to build a workforce with job satisfaction and fully committed to their service.

“I expect each and every employee of the CEB works here with a smile. They must not have grievances on their salaries, future prospects or institutional problems. Only then they can give their best to the CEB. I believe that in the last two and half years, we have achieved much in terms of removing salary anomalies, pay increases and promotions. We don’t have employees from employees from outsourced companies, Minister Siyambalapitiya said.

Minister Siyambalapitiya said Sri Lanka had been able to provide uninterrupted power supply to the entire country round the year despite many countries in the region impose continued power cuts as the CEB possesses an extremely loyal work forces.

The best incident that displayed their loyalty, efficiency and dedication was series of natural disasters that took place in the last couple of years.

“During those natural disasters, be they landslides, flash floods or disruption to main power lines, CEB employees took measures to restore power supply in a few hours without thinking of the gravity of the power failure, dangers it poses or the difficulties they had to face,” he said.

Minister Siyambalapitiya said he expected to resolve any issue cropped up among CEB employees in future also through dialogue, compromise and mutual understanding as done in the last few years.
