Susantha records back to back wins in style
65th National Snooker Championship
Eighteen times national snooker champion Susantha Boteju of Sea Endless began his campaign of the 65th National Snooker Championship which is in progress at the Moors SC billiards table in style when he recorded back to back wins.
Susantha secured his first win in the morning session when he coasted to a convincing four frames to nil win against M.R.T. Chandana of BRC in the seven frame encounter and the specialty of the win was that he made a break of 100, the first to do so in the tournament and then followed with another break of 56 in the third frame.
Later in the afternoon Susantha recorded his second win with the same winning margin of 4-0 over D. John of Pyramid SP Kandy. Susantha has one more match to play in his group but nevertheless is assured of topping his group.
Defending champion M.F.M. Fazil of The Cue and last year’s runner up M.M. Mubeen of Army notched up their second win of the tournament with wins over Fouzan Hussain (Pyramid SP Kandy) and S.H.M. Aslam (MSC) with the identical winning margin of four frames to nil. The pair in the process took the top slots their respective groups.
Fouzan who underwent a defeat to reigning champ Fazil made amends when he overcame Mohamed Abzal of POP in the afternoon session to keep his hopes alive of advancing to the next stage.
Eight matches are down for decision today with four each in the morning and afternoon sessions. The matches scheduled to be played in the morning are S.H.M. Aslam (MSC) vs K.H. Sirisoma (SLPA), M.R.M. Reezan (Sea Endless) vs Riyaz Noor (The Cue, Mohamed Thaha (MICH) vs Shamil Ameen (Sea Endless) and S.M. Zulfikar (YMCA) vs M.Y.M. Ariff (MSC).
The four matches scheduled for the afternoon are M.R.M. Reezan (Sea Endless) vs T.D. Maduranga (Army), Susantha Boteju (Sea Endless) vs M.J.A. Thasleem (AAC), Mohamed Shafraz (Sea Endless) vs W.S.T. Madusanka (Army) and M.Z.A. Zulfi (MSC) vs Mohamed Thaha (MICH).
