NO COMPROMISE ON THE ASPIRATIONS OF TAMILS, SAYS SUMANTHIRAN
The TNA agreed to a unitary form of government (Ekiya Raajya), but when it comes to the political aspirations of thetamil people, including power-sharing, the TNA will not go soft on it, TNA Parliamentarian M.a.sumanthiran said.
He said so at a meeting to introduce the TNA candidates contesting the Local Government elections, held at Point Pedro on Saturday.
“Those who wanted us to boycott the Presidential elections now say that they would do everything and when we ask them how they would do that, there has been no answer,” he said. “We have indeed agreed on certain sections of the new constitution, especially when it comes to the unitary form of government. The reason was because the Sinhalese construe Federalism as a form of division of the country. When we speak to the Sinhalese, we tell them that we do not want to divide the country but seek nonretractable powers. That was why we agreed to a unitary form of government,”mr. Sumanthiran said.

“However when it comes to powersharing, we are very firm in our stance. The cause is that we will not give in when it comes to aspirations of the Tamil people. We are not completely satisfied with the government’s action and the Interim Report. But it is only an Interim Report which contains some of our aspirations and we are content that we were able to accomplish at least that much in that respect. The media too is distorting the facts,” he said.
Mr.sumanthiran said that the media had become worse than the politicians. Politicians tell lies to win over the people. But the media is publishing worse lies for the sake of money. The media do not even publish the truth that we say, taking the message across to the people.
