PM opens auditorium and conference hall in Kandy
Bogambara to be developed as a tourist centre
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe opened the multi-purpose Auditorium and Conference Hall situated at the Kandy Secretariat Building, which is an annex to the main building, costing Rs.20 million and with a seating capacity for 700 guests.
The Prime Minister said that the development work in Kandy was not done as expected and that after the elections he would stay in Kandy to see for himself the progress that would be made in the development process in Kandy.
He said that Bogambara would be developed as a Tourist Centre so that Tourists would stay for a day or two, rather than the present position as a ‘through’ destination. He
The Prime Minister emphasized that Kandy would be a central place for development and the development to go on to Digana and further to other areas as well.
said Japan, China and India would be assisting to build the city of Kandy as a centre which previously has been forgotten. He added that the day would come to travel from Kandy to Hambantota in a matter of two to three hours.
Referring to the environment, the Prime Minister said that all development work would be based in preserving the environment, which is essential in a place like Kandy.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Kandy would be a central place for development and the development to go on to Digana and further to other areas as well. He said that he would personally take an interest in developing Kandy as a centre for development to other areas.
Earlier, before the Prime Minister attended the opening of the Auditorium, he paid Homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic and later paid his respects to the Mahayanayakes of Malwatte and Asgiri.
Among those present were Minister Lakshman Kiriella, Yapa Abeywardene, Rauf Hakeem, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and other Parliamentarians.
