Clean yourself before accusing UNP: PM

- BY YOHAN PERERA

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday urged all political parties which accuse UNP of corruption to get rid of the corrupt individuals in their own camps.

“Take action against those corrupt persons in your camps tomorrow itself,” he told the political party leaders at a UNP election rally in Matale last morning.

“Only UNP had taken action against those who are engaged in corruption by asking them to resign from their ministerial portfolios. However none of the other parties have taken action against corrupt persons in their own camps although they are pointing their finger at UNP,” the Prime Minister said.

He said the UNP will get rid of those who are accused of corruption in its camp in the future as well.

Focusing on development plans, the Prime Minister said a highway would be constructed from Trincomalee to Matale via Dambulla in the coming years. He added that the Matale City will be modernized. “Development will take time as it has been in the past,” he said while recalling that it took some years for the people to reap the benefit of Mahaweli development project though it was started in 1978.
