COP INJURED IN KATARAGAMA SHOOTING

Police suspect personal dispute

A Police Constable attached to the Intelligen­ce Unit of the Tangalle Police had been injured, when unidentifi­ed gunmen opened fire at Kataragama last morning, the Police said yesterday.

They said the Constable, Pushpakuma­ra Kodithuwak­ku, is resident of Wallimatha­gama in Kataragama.

He was shot at near his house, while he was on his way to the Police Station.

They said the gunmen, who had arrived in a three-wheeler had fired at the victim and the injured PC was admitted to the Dearawewa Hospital with injuries to his left arm.

He was later transferre­d to the Karapitiya Hospital.

The Police said that they suspected that the shooting might have taken place due to a personal dispute. Investigat­ions are being carried out into the shooting by the Police on the instructio­ns of Tangalle and Matara Division DIG Kithsiri Jayalath and Tangalle Division SP Laksiri Geethal.
