Pub­lic trans­port ser­vices strength­ened

Re­turn­ing to Colombo af­ter New Year:

Spe­cial pub­lic trans­port ser­vices will be in place for the con­ve­nience of the pub­lic re­turn­ing to Colombo fol­low­ing the Sin­hala and Hindu New Year.

Sri Lanka Trans­port Board Deputy Gen­eral Man­ager P. H. R. T. Chan­drasiri said spe­cial bus ser­vices are be­ing op­er­a­tional at re­gional level from Sun­day (15) up to April 25 for the con­ve­nience of the pas­sen­gers.

Mean­while, ac­cord­ing to the Fort Rail­way Con­trol Room, spe­cial Fort bound train ser­vices have also been sched­uled from Sun­day (15) un­til to­day (17).

How­ever, Pri­vate Bus Own­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion Pres­i­dent Ge­munu Wi­jer­atne told the Daily Mir­ror that pri­vate bus ser­vice would not be com­pletely re­stored un­til Wed­nes­day (18).

Mr. Wi­jer­atne said he hoped at least 50 per cent of pri­vate buses would be op­er­a­tional by to­mor­row (17).
