SI as­saulted by group of dice play­ers

A po­lice of­fi­cer who had been as­saulted by a group of in­di­vid­u­als when he vis­ited a dice gam­bling den at Gal­palama area in Make­liella in Badu­raliya was ad­mit­ted to the Badu­raliya hos­pi­tal and trans­ferred to the Ka­lu­tara gen­eral hos­pi­tal in Nagoda.

The vic­tim SI U. Amaras­inghe had vis­ited a dice gam­bling den on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived through the Po­lice Emer­gency Ser­vice 119 only to be as­saulted by a group of dice play­ers. When a woman asked him why couldn’t they play dice dur­ing the new year cel­e­bra­tions, the po­lice of­fi­cer had told her that the law would not be re­laxed for the new year fes­ti­val or any other fes­ti­val. A group of in­di­vid­u­als who were under the in­flu­ence of liquor had as­saulted the SI and even taken away his baton.

The sus­pects ar­rested by the Badu­raliya Po­lice in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent were to be pro­duced be­fore the Matugama mag­is­trate yes­ter­day. Po­lice said sev­eral sus­pects in­volved in the in­ci­dent would be ar­rested soon. OIC Badu­raliya Po­lice Prakrama Udawatta is con­duct­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions on the in­struc­tions of SP Upul Nilmini Ari­yaratne.
