Sinhale Jathika Sanvidanaya President Dan Priyasad recently met with Uruwarige Wannila Aththo at Kotabakiniya in Dambana and sought his assistance to protect the forest reserves in the country.

He requested the Vedda Chief who is a great environment lover to intervene and save the Wilpattu National Park, Knuckles Mountain Range and Sinharaja Forest Reserve that are being destroyed. “We decided to inform the Veddha community on the ongoing wanton destruction of forest cover. If we want to breathe fresh air, we must then protect the environment. Plants and animals should be protected to maintain natural equilibrium. However, it is very sad that forest cover has been fast dwindling and we already experience its consequences. We need a visionary leader to protect the country and the Vedda Chief is the only person who puts in so much of effort to protect the environment. The objective of our organisation is to save forests for which we largely depend on the Veddha Chief,” he said.
