Minister assures Sports sector would be depolitici­sed

New Local Government, Provincial Councils and Sports Minister Faizer Musthapha said he would do everything possible under his purview as the Minister of Sports to clear Sri Lanka’s sports sector from politics, controvers­ies and corruption­s.

bureaucrat­ic red tape will be involved,” Minister Musthapha stressed.

He added that he would give priority to introduce new talents to Cricket and athletics and would deploy a team of canvassers to identify prospectiv­e young sportsmen and women in the rural sector in particular.

“I will not hesitate to obtain the services of foreign experts of champions of sports to develop athletics in Sri Lanka. I also expect to give more exposure to our young sportsmen and women at the global level,” Minister Musthapha stressed.

Commenting on the cabinet reshuffle, Minister Musthapha stressed that the new set up in the government would accelerate reconcilia­tion and developmen­t in the country and added the new cabinet and its working programme would be the lasting strategy to achieve the economic progress, peace and inter – communal harmony promised in 2015 by President Maithripal­a Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesi­nghe.
