THIRIMANNE GIVES COLOMBO PERFECT START

An unbeaten 107 from just 99 balls inclusive of 10 boundaries and a six by Lahiru Thirimanne helped the defending champions Colombo Province to record a close four-run win on the Duckworth and Lewis scoring method against Dambulla Province and to begin the Super Four Interprovincial Limited Overs Cricket Tournament on a winning note at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
Thirimanne put on 69 for the third wicket with Dhananjaya de Silva and followed up by adding 47 for the fourth wicket with Aneglo Perera and a further 57 for the fifth wicket with Chamara Silva
Dambulla Province made 270 for six from their restricted 40 overs and Colombo Province in reply ended on 262 for six from 39 overs after they were set a revised target of 259 runs.

Meanwhile, Kandy Province came out victorious by 28 runs on the Duckworth and Lewis scoring method over Galle Province in another rain curtailed match played at the P. Sara Oval yesterday.
The architect of Kandy’s win was Mahela Udawatte who slammed a quick-fire 116 from only 96 balls that included 14 boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier, Galle helped by half centuries from Sammu Ashan and Roshen Silva posted a formidable 250 runs.
Kandy in their run chase were given a solid start by the openers Mahela Udawatte and Niroshan Dickwella with the pair adding 137 in only 118 balls.
