National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and MP Wimal Weerawansa sent a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday requesting him to reinstate Colonel Rathnapriya Bandu who recently departed the Civil Security Department amidst scenes of anguish shown by rehabilitated LTTE cadres.

Commander of the Civil Defence Force in Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Jaffna, Colonel Rathnapriya Bandu worked closely with the people as well as former LTTE cadres who were undergoing rehabilitation. It was not only the people of the area that would feel his loss but the rehabilitated LTTE cadres as well. They were unable to control their emotions as he was leaving the Vishvamadu area on transfer. MP Weerawansa highlighted that the example shown by Colonel Rathnapriya Bandu is a sign of reconciliation and peace taking place in the country. “I request you to reinstate Colonel Rathnapriya Bandu,” Weerawansa said in his letter to President Sirisena.
