EVERY CITIZEN HAS DEBT BURDEN OF 4 LAKHS: AMARAWEERA
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said every citizen in the country was burdened with debt amounting to more than Rs.400,000 and that he was not pleased with the on-gong development process.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the national programme to plant 1 million jak seedlings and to distribute 100,000 fruit plants at the Panadurwa Jeramius Dias Junior School, he said that Arthur V. Dias, a national hero popularly known as “Kos Mama launched a massive food production campaign.
He said the country still imported a large quantity of food that could be produced here and depended on foreign loans that swallowed a big slice of the country’s income as debt servicing.
“My plan is to boost agriculture in order to reduce food imports to the bare minimum.
The minister garlanded a portrait of Arthur V.dias (Kos Mama) during his visit.
