2,768 raids on il­le­gal poly­thene since Jan­uary; le­gal ac­tion against 181: CEA

The Cen­tral En­vi­ron­men­tal Author­ity (CEA) has con­ducted 2,768 raids on il­le­gal poly­thene pro­duc­tion dur­ing which 181 in­di­vid­u­als have been brought to book from Jan­uary, 2018 to May 31.

The CEA banned the use of poly­thene lunch sheets, Sty­ro­foam boxes and shop­ping bags with ef­fect from Septem­ber 1, 2017.

The raids were con­ducted on the ba­sis of pro­duc­tion, sales, stor­ing of il­le­gal poly­thene items.

Ac­cord­ing to the CEA In­ves­ti­ga­tion Unit data, the raids have been con­ducted in ar­eas such as Colombo, Gam­paha, Bo­rales­ga­muwa, At­tana­galla, Ragama, Bam­bal­api­tiya, Pet­tah, Pepiliyana, Ko­ta­hena, Ke­laniya, Tho­ta­langa, Katu­nayake, See­duwa and Nai­wala.

The CEA will con­tinue to con­duct raids in fu­ture too with the sup­port of the po­lice.
