Daily Mirror (Sri Lanka) - - BUSINESS NEWS - BY G. ILLANGAKOON MENIKE

When the case of the alleged staged shooting at the vehicle driven by the former CEO of SAITM Medical College Dr. Sameera Senarathne in order to prove that his life was in danger was taken up for hearing again yesterday before Kaduwela Magistrate and Additional District Judge Prasanna Alwis, the four suspects including Dr. Senarathne were further remanded till June 28.

The suspects in this case are Sumith Niroshana alias Teena, Sisira Udaya Kumara, Arun Lakmal Kushantha Wilathgamuwa and Dr. Sameera Senarathne.

When the case resumed yesterday Attorney PC Neville Abeyrathne, representing the fourth suspect Dr. Senarathne argued that his client had been taken into custody by the CID unjustifiably on charges of claiming threats on his life, conspiring and giving false statements, and that his client had no necessity to stage a scene that his life was in danger.

Sergeant Wasala Thanthri representing the CID argued that the fourth suspect had deliberately conspired to suppress the continuous protests launched by the University Students against Dr. Neville Fernando.

Considering the submissions of both parties, Magistrate Prasanna Alwis stated in open courts that from the facts stated by the prosecution it has been proved that the fourth Suspect Doctor had paid money to the other suspects and conspired to stage this incident and as a measure of preventing undue influence on the officers conducting investigations, the suspects were ordered to be re-remanded till June 28.
