RAPIST ABDUCTING DAUGHTER OF BILLIONAIR­E ARRESTED

Ayoung man abducting and raping a 15- yearold daughter of a billionair­e businessma­n in Negombo and demanding a ransom of Rs. 10 million to release her was arrested by the Negombo Police.

The 25- year old suspect Jiffrey Mohamed Ashroff a sports instructor was produced before Negombo Addl. Magistrate and remanded till July 10.

Investigat­ions revealed that the girl, a student of an internatio­nal school who acquainted the suspect on the face book had been in love with him for about two months. She had eloped with him on June The girl who acquainted the suspect on the face book had been in love with him for about two months 28 and had been raped at a lodge in Ettukala in Negombo. The suspect had thereafter given a call to the girl’s mother and demanded a ransom of Rs. 10 million to release her and that she would be killed if the matter was informed to police. The woman who told him that she could arrange only Rs.1 million and that she was prepared to pay that sum, made a complaint to the Crime Investigat­ion Division of the Negombo Police.

When the suspect realised that the police was hunting for him, he had brought the girl on his motorcycle and left her by the road side at Batapattal­a in Katana, only to be handed over to the police by the residents of the area.

Police said the suspect with the help of the girl had planned to obtain a ransom of Rs. 10 million from her parents.

OIC Negombo Division Crime Investigat­ion Unit Sampath Dissanayak­e, Sergeants 63188 Rauf, 34064 Herath, PCS 82068 Sampath, 34292 Nalinda, 37928 Wanninayak­e and 88442 Perera conducted investigat­ions on the instructio­ns of ASP Mohamed Rifad, and SSP Chandana Atukorala.
