Govt. failed to resolve housing issues in N-E: Mano
People are displeased with the government for failing to resolve housing problems in the North and the East, National Integration Minister Mano Ganesan said recently.
He said several housing projects were implemented by the Indian Government and the Sri Lanka Army, but not a single house had been built in the North or the East.
“I condemn the LTTE resurgence statement made by former State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran, but people in the North and the East will agree with her because their problems have not been looked into by the government. The government promised to build 100,000 houses in the North and the East, but the plan has been swept under the carpet
The government promised to build 100,000 houses in the North and the East, but the plan has been swept under the carpet.
However, the Indian Government built some 45,000 houses and the Army several more. Minister Swaminathan is assigned with implementing part of the proposed project but the foundation has not been laid to a single house.
Further, a ministry coming under the purview of President Maithripala Sirisena has been tasked with constructing another 50,000 houses, but nothing has materialised yet. I requested the President to assign part of the programme to my ministry, but to no avail,” he said. Moreover, the minister said people in the North and the East were instrumental in electing this government to power, but they now accuse it for failing to address pressing issues such as housing problems.
