Elephants attack farmers in Alyadivemb­u

Two farmers who sustained serious injuries in an elephant attack at Alayadivem­bu, Pattimedu in Amparai early yesterday were admitted to the Akkaraipat­tu Base Hospital, the Police said.

The attack took place at about 2 a.m in a paddy field with ripe crops in Pachchayad­i vaddai where four farmers from Akkaraipat­tu kept watch on their crop when two elephants attacked them.

Two farmers sustained serious injuries while the other two managed to escape by fleeing from there. One of the victims Mohamed Asanar Gafoor (52) sustained serious injuries on his limbs and body as he was hurled by an elephant. while the other victim, M.A. Kalanthar Lebbe (62) sustained a serious head injury.

Both of the victims were being treated in the emergency ward of the Akkaraipat­tu Base Hospital. hospital sources said.
