Sirimal Fernando appointed as Sri Lanka-greater Mekong Business Council President
The seventh annual general meeting of the Sri Lankagreater Mekong Business Council was held recently at the Colombo Club.
Ambassador of Vietnam Pham Thibich Ngoc and Ambassador of Thailand Chulamanee Chartsuwan were the chief guests at the event.
Astron Limited Deputy Managing Director Sirimal Fernando was elected by the members as President for the year 2018-2019. Ranfer Teas (Pvt.) Ltd Director Ranil Seneveratne, Aitken Spence Travels (Pvt.) Ltd General Manager Outbound Nishan Seneviratne and Travel7 (Pvt.) Ltd Executive Director Trevor Rajaratnam were elected as Vice Presidents.
The member companies, AG International (Pvt.) Ltd, Maliban Biscuit Manufactories (Pvt.) Ltd and Siam City Cement (Lanka) Limited were elected to the Committee.
Outgoing President Andre Fernando, Chairman and Managing Director, MAC Holdings (Pvt.) Ltd, will continue on the Committee as Immediate Past President.
Ngoc informed the membership of the opportunities available in Vietnam, while Chartsuwan, who had recently briefed the members regarding the opportunities available in Thailand, took this opportunity to update the members on the outcomes of the visit of Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka-greater Mekong Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was inaugurated on June 8, 2010. The main objective of the business council is further expansion of trade, investment and tourism between Sri Lanka and the Greater Mekong: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
The council maintains a close relationship with the diplomatic missions of the Greater Mekong in Sri Lanka as well as the Sri Lankan diplomatic missions in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
