Severe drought hits Batticaloa District
Batticaloa District is experiencing a severe drought for the last few months. As a result, tanks, lakes, ponds and streams were drying up leading to an acute shortage of drinking water in the area.
There is a severe drought in the area as there had been no rain at all for the last few months. The paddy fields in the area are parched due to lack of water.
The children, women and the elderly were subjected to various ailments due to the prevailing hot weather. Meanwhile, the normal lives of the people had been affected as they were confined to their houses due to the hot weather.
