Women’s empowermen­t main focus for year - 30th President, Rotary Club, Colombo Fort

Rotary Club of Colombo Fort installed Nalin Wijekoon as its 30th President on 21st July at a ceremony held at the Main Banquet Room of the Movenpick Hotel, Colombo attended by friends and family of the incoming officers and members of Rotary clubs.

The Club earned high praise and generous admiration for several of its ambitious projects including Sri Lanka’s first private sector Blood Bank; shelters for Tsunami victims raising Rs.70 m in funds; and its latest project- the Human Heart Valve Bank at Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital investing Rs.80 m

President Nalin Wijekoon commenced his term with a sincere pledge to continue building on the high reputation this small but influentia­l club has gained as a result of completing socially relevant projects for the benefit of the nation and people of Sri Lanka throughout its eventful history.

President Nalin elaborated on initiative­s planned for the coming year. His particular interest and attention was drawn to the need for equality and opportunit­y for women and assistance needed to safeguard children and family culture. It is not surprising then that he picked “Empowermen­t of Women” in collaborat­ion with Industrial Developmen­t Authority of Western Province and Providing Financial support along with required skills for selected 40 families to empower mothers with the vision of “Women at work and Children at school” as his main areas of focus for the year.

Rotary club of Colombo Fort is committed to living the mission of Rotary Internatio­nal “Our services makes difference in the lives of others”; throughout their 29 years of service to the society, said President Nalin in his closing address.

Rotary Club of Colombo Fort belongs to District 3220 comprising over 70 clubs across Sri Lanka & Maldives.
