The Importance of Breakfast
However you think otherwise, breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day. We might argue that at dinner time the day is over and the whole family gathers, so it must be dinner. This is partly true, but if we are to fuel our bodies to have a positive successful day then breakfast gets more priority. Especially in the case of children, after a good 8 to 9 hours of sleep, they are without any nutrients to start the day.
Children need a balanced diet that will help kick start their growth, brain activity and general energy to survive their hectic school day, If one were to miss breakfast then disaster slowly ensues. The child goes to school on an empty stomach, the next break offers him or her ten minutes of wolfing down what ever is provided as a snack. This meal is usually not a balanced meal, therefore not giving then the essential nutrients needed to help then concentrate in class. The child is inadequately nourished and soon starts to tire. Concentration levels drop and the child does not put their full attention when participating in the said classwork. They leave the lesson without benefiting from what was taught. As they progress further during the day, the blood sugar levels start to drop. They might start to feel moody and grumpy and some children unnecessarily misbehave ensuring unwanted punishments. Then only at the end of day the child is able to eat a proper meal at home. Some due to their hunger levels binge on unnecessary caloric fried and sugary foods.
If this behaviour were to progress over a long period of time, they child is bound to suffer from childhood obesity and other future ailments. If a child continuously starts to miss breakfast, their days suffer and then do not accomplish the levels they are capable of. They cruise during the day and miss out on important opportunities. Therefore, as parents we do indeed want the best for our children, make a small act like breakfast a key start to your day!
