Aaron’s record-breaking season continues
“Hutch Super Series” championship leader Aaron Gunawardena continues to increase his lead

The Lions Top Speed scheduled on September 23 at the Katukurunda Circuit pulled in a huge crowd as it was jointly organised by Lions Club Colombo District 306C1 as an event for charity.
Team Melwa rider Aaron Gunawardena pulled off one of the biggest surprises in Lankan history by attempting to race a super bike 1000cc at the age of 15. Starting the race at the back of the grid and fighting through the 14-rider traffic and wining his debut event well ahead of many top ranking seasoned riders certainly kept the crowd entertained.
Ruwan Peiris, Team Manager, Melwa said, “Indeed, Jaden and Aaron are the most successful riders Sri Lanka has ever produced, sadly their international dreams cannot be perused as scholarships for the premiere events do have a height restriction and they have exceeded it by a few inches. However their dreams were not totally shattered as they will be focusing on riding the local championships once again for Team Melwa. Aaron has won all three rounds of the 2018 super series so far and has his eyes on the National championship too.”
Elder brother Jaden who was on a newer model 1000cc had technical issues and retired half way through the 16-lap event. The next race scheduled for the young lads would be The Rotherham Circuit Meet, at the same venue on October 7, 2018.
Super car driver Ashan Silva was untouchable and won both his events in style, so did the young formula driver Briyan Perera while Rajith Uluwita, Shenal Gunawardena, Gihan Dheerasekera, Zaakir Wahab, Chanaka Ratnayeka in their respective events kept the crowd entertained.
