DUDLEY SENANAYAKE MEMORIAL

-

The welcome speech was by Minister D. M. Swaminatham, Chairman of DSF

The Dudley Senanayake Memorial oration was as usual a dignified event, this time the orator was Gordon Mackay from South Africa, Secretary General of Liberal International. He made an excellent speech pleasing all Dudley fans as he said the late Dudley's words were his inspiration to enter politics. The welcome speech was by Minister D. M. Swaminatham,

Chairman of DSF who with the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung

hosted the event. The vote of thanks was by State Minister of Defence young Ruwan Wijewardene, fast emerging into a brilliant speaker, who with this and his simplicity brought back nostalgic memories of the late Dudley, who like his grandnephew Ruwan was simple, never enticed by the grandeur of power, and never pushed himself into the limelight. Later that night in celebration of the worldwide work of the Stiftung, Sagarica

Delgoda, its representative here hosted a dinner at The Blue, at the Hilton. The Speakers there were The German Ambassador, Ministers Harsha de Silva, Ruwan Wijewardene, Deputy Speaker,

Ananda Kumarasiri, who I met for the first time. He was a well spoken, courteous young man and I was pleased to find that he was a Thomian. Dr. Pakiasothy

Saravanamuttu, always an eloquent speaker, Sagarica and Sharmila Perera.
