JOAQUIN PHOENIX LOOKS MENACING IN NEON GREEN CLOWN WIG
Fans are getting another look at Joaquin Phoenix in action and in full makeup as the Joker. On Monday, the 43-year old acclaimed actor was spotted filming a chilling scene, wearing a dayglo green clown wig, for director Todd Phillips' Joker
in New York City, aka Gotham City. The upcoming Warner Brothdc Films production is a prequel to
Christopher Nolan's 2008 movie The Dark Knight. From the looks of things, Phoenix has channelled the psychopathic mind that is the Joker. On this day, Phoenix can be seen standing inside a graffiti-laden phone booth, flashing a menacing stare, as he talks on the phone. Like his scene on Saturday, the actor wore full face clown make-up, only this time stylists had him wear that dayglo green wig-cap that gave him a creepier edge to the character. Capping off his bizarre image, he wore a red, white, and blue checkered blazer that screamed 1970's retro polyester, along with an orange vest, a purple and white patterned shirt and a red tie.
At one point during filming, a female character approaches the phone booth just as chaos breaks out around them. The actor, himself, took careful time and consideration before taking on the iconic role. But in the end, Phoenix felt cowriter/director Todd Phillips had a vision for the film that he thought was compelling. ‘I think he's very impressive and he seems to have a very interesting understanding of this world and what he's trying to say,' he revealed in an interview with Collider. Phoenix also gauged his own fear of playing the role as a positive. ‘It feels unique, it is its own world in some ways, and maybe, mostly, it scares the f***ing shit out of me or something. It might as well be the thing that scares you the most.'
