Amaraweera on caretaker government

It is an absolute lie spread by those who are impatient to come to power. We have not held any discussion with any one or any party on forming a caretaker government

Many talks have been circulating about a caretaker government or an interim government these days but we are not aware of such political arrangement or ready to support a caretaker government, Agriculture Minister and General Secretary of the UPFA, Mahinda Amaraweera said.

“It is an absolute lie spread by those who are impatient to come to power. We have not held any discussion with any one or any party on forming a caretaker government. The incumbent government will be in power until 2020. No doubt about it. The Presidential election is expected to be held in mid 2020,” Minister Amaraweera stressed.

“Politicians have many aspirations, agendas and hopes. In a democratic society they have all the freedom to dream on these issues. But realising them and fulfilling is a different matter. Governments could be changed only through elections in a democracy. As such, this government will remain in power until the next Parliamentary polls and the Presidential Election will not be held before the due date. Therefore, the question of forming a caretaker government does not arise,” Minister Amaraweera stressed.

Addressing a ceremony to mark the opening of the first ever export oriented pineapple lantation at Mallagama in Monaragala, Minister Amaraweera went on to say that in Sri Lanka, governments could not be changed with conspiracies but through free and fair elections.

In the pineapple plantation, 75 farmers were been given half acre of 75 plots of land to grow pineapple together with all the necessary equipment, technology, fertilizer, water pumps and a market to sell their harvest. The Agriculture Ministry expects that a farmer could earn minimum Rs. one million per year through pineapple cultivation.

Law and Order, Home Affairs and Public Administration Management Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara also participated in the function.
