- BY S. GEETHANJAN

The situation where the people who are resettled after the end of war, still look forward to receive relief measures and this situation ought to change, Mullaithivu District Secretary Rupawathy Keetheeswaran said.

She said so at a cultural festival held in the Thunukkai Division on Saturday.

“Culture is an integral part of human life and deviating from it would lead humanity towards barrenness. Our lands have become desolate due to the change of climate so that we are unable to cultivate our usual crop at the correct season which is as similar to the cultural drought we encounter now as we are living in a society subjected to technically dominated challenges,”she said.

The DS said that because of the reason the cultural rituals and customs were being ignored and it had become inevitable. As such, the cultural festivals of that nature was indespensible to overcome the cultural barrenness and to return to the past glory.

“The cultural richness of our community and regions could be reminisced to our young generation through cultural events similar to this,” Ms. Ketheeswaran said..

She said felicitating those who contributed immensely to nurture and uphold their values and culture was the need of the hour.

“This event held in Thunnukkai only reveals that our cultures are still alive and they will continue to develop further,” the DS said.
