Act fast, time is running out!

According to unofficial reports the parliamentarians in the joint Opposition are now planning to set up a caretaker government with the support of all opposition political parties in the parliament as their main target is to give a Prime Ministerial post to Mahinda Rajapaksa. These power-hungry politicians seem to be fishing in troubled waters when the country is facing economic crises due to unprecedented depreciation of rupee against the US dollar as a result of the sudden policy decisions of the US government.

The previous Government allowed to import vehicles including motorcycles to the country without a proper plan ahead of the last presidential election. Now people are crying against the ever-rising fuel price which is decided by the government according to a price formula done by a committee. Even school- going children know very well that all we have to do at this juncture is decrease the imports and increase the exports. As it is the only thing we have to do to face the present crises. Otherwise the country will become another Greece where the economy collapsed due to heavy loans.

I feel that all political party leaders who had ruled this country during the last three decades are completely responsible for the present pathetic situation because no one took action at the appropriate time to encourage the exporters. Instead they took steps to import every thing the country needs without giving a helping hand to the domestic industries. Today, we are importing even tamarind although, we have indigenous ‘siyambala’ which is better than imported varieties. Therefore, the time has come for all political party leaders to get together and form a national government for the benefit of the country and its people without gaining a political advantage for their own interest
