British School thump Asoka MV by innings

The British School in Colombo created history when they recorded one of the biggest wins in junior cricket while overcoming Asoka MV by an innings and 307 runs in their Inter-schools Under13 Cricket Tournament match played in Colombo.

The highlight of the match was the second-wicket stand of 211 runs between Skipper Nehan Moonesingh­e and Kenneth De Silva as the British School amassed a massive 379 for the loss of two wickets in their first innings after being put into bat.

Moonesingh­e smashed 106 from just 65 deliveries with the aid of 11 boundaries and four sixes while De Silva was even more aggressive as he raced to a 49-ball century including 16 boundaries and one six.

In reply, Asoka MV were skittle out for a mere 51 runs in their first innings and were forced to follow-on. They performed badly and were shot out for just 21 runs in the second innings.

Opening bowler Shehath Srikanth was the chief wrecker as he finished with a match-bag of seven for 22.

He was well supported by Rajeev Navarathne­m, James Graham, Kavya Shukla and Shashrik Vijayakuma­r.
