The National Trust SL
Lecture on Thursday 25Th October 2018
The 111th Session of the Monthly Lecture Series of the National Trust - Sri Lanka will
be held at the HNB Auditorium, 22nd Floor, HNB Towers, 479 T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10 at 6.30p.m. on Thursday 25th October 2018.
In preparation of the original lecture given at Peradeniya,
Tissa Jayatilaka read widely about Professor Ludowyk and his contribution as an academic and citizen. He was struck by the fact that few SEEM AWARE of Ludowyk’s SIGNIFICANT contribution to the country as a whole. The majority know only of his IMMENSE SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY OF CEYLON AS A BRILLIANT TEACHER AND DIRECTOR AND PRODUCER OF FIRST RATE THEATRE. So much so that ignorant critics tend to write him off as a westernised OR DERACINATED Sri Lankan/ Ceylonese who only catered to the upper crust of our society. But a closer reading shows how mistaken the majority are. Tissa JAYATILAKA is fascinated by the collaboration between Ludowyk and Ratnasuriya, THE THEN PROFESSOR OF SINHALA at the University of Ceylon.
Tissa Jayatilaka served as the Executive Director of the bi- national United States
Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (usslfc) from ( May) 1989 to ( May) 2018. The US-SLFC, established in 1952, administers the two- way education exchange programme between the two countries with a view to promoting mutual understanding between American and Sri Lankan citizens. He currently serves on the Council of Management of the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies as well as Senior Fellow there researching into Sri Lanka- United States Relations and the 21st Century Politics of the Indian Ocean Region.
Further information can be obtained from the Trust Office at the Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology, 407, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
