PREDICTIONS BY SENANAYAKES COME TRUE – WIJEYADASA

- BY YOHAN PERERA

The predictions made by the Late F. R. Senanayake and late Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake on the geopolitics in the Asian Region have come true today as there is unrest in the region as a result of battle for supremacy, Minister Higher Education and Cultural Affairs Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said.

Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe expressed this sentiment at the launch of the book ‘F. R. Senanayake, an illustrious son of Lanka’ on Saturday which also marked the 134th birth anniversary of late leader and his brother D. S. Senanayake, the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

“Late leaders stated in the past that the biggest threat to Asia was not Europe but countries such as China as they will struggle for supremacy. Hasn’t this prediction come true today?” the Minister questioned.

“Sri Lanka essentially needs to revert back to the policies of Senanayake’s if not the country will not survive,” he added.

Western Province Governor Hemakumara Nanayakkara said Sri Lanka had ignored the Senanayake policies today. Responding to a statement made by Venerable Ittapane Dhammalankara Thera that getting a plot of land to put up an office for the National Temperance Movement was a difficult task, Mr. Nanayakkara said foreigners could by an apartment in any building complex today.

He said a plot of land called ‘Male watte’ attached to Siripada had been given to an Arabian company. Also he recalled how late F. .R Senanayake proposed his brother D.S. Senanayake for the State Council.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that Sri Lankans should go through a process of self criticism and see whether policies of late F. R. and D. S. Senanayake were being followed today. He said it was unfortunate to see some forces arousing communal and religious hatred. “No religion including Buddhism had taught the people to hate one another,” he said.

Also he said Sri Lanka had become the country with highest number of protests in the world today.

That was the reputation they had earned at present,” he said.

State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene said it was important to teach the younger generation about F.R. Senanayake.

“Most of the people, especially the young ones are aware of late Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake but they hardly know about F.R. Senanayake and it is essential to teach them about him,” he said.

All the Speakers recalled how late F. R. Senanayake , D.S. Senanayake and other leaders launched the peaceful struggle for freedom.
