NCPC EX-COUNCILLORS MEET; TO LAUNCH PROTEST TO HOLD PC POLLS SOON
Former Ministers and Councillors of the North Central Provincial Council, who met yesterday in Anuradhapura decided to launch a protest campaign against postponement of the Provincial Council elections.
The term of office of the North Central, North Western and the Central Provincial Councils have expired and that of the Northern Provincial Council expires on October 25.
The former Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith of the NCP who chaired the meeting told media that the Opposition in those PCS should be vigilant over the Government’s stance on holding elections.
“We are not prepared to tolerate the postponement of PC elections, which is a clear indication of the Government’s antipathy to elections,” he said.
“Everyone in the Government knows that the public opinion is against them, although Government members boast about their activities.
